In September 2021, the HMS Leigh – Bravest Pier in the World Event will be held on Southend Pier. 
 
Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th September schools will be invited to take part in a unique learning experience on Southend Pier. On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September the wider community will be welcomed to create a very special celebration of The Royal British Legion and WW2 Southend-on-Sea.  
 
After 2 years Covid-19 restrictions, the HMS Leigh Project will bring a unique exploration of the legacy of WW2 Southend to local schools and the community.  The commonplace and remarkable bravery of the men and women who worked day and night for 6 years to make HMS Leigh one of the most important places in the war effort will finally be revealed. 
 
The Event will include: 
Actors bringing to life some of the amazing personalities from WW2 HMS Leigh 
Custom made exhibitions explaining how HMS Leigh became key to the survival of Britain 
WW2 music specially written for the event 
A healthy walk to the end of the historic pier 
Life Saving Exhibitions by Southend RNLI 
Local Musicians playing live music 
The HMS Leigh Café with food from the time 
Spam Fritters, tea without sugar and a warm welcome
