Bygone Years 001 - Cockling In Leigh-on-Sea
For many years the Cockling Boats have fished in the Estuary off Leigh-on-Sea. This short film shows how the work of the Cockling Fleet in the 1930s was little changed from that of previous generations.
In May 1940, 6 Cockling Boats joined the fleet of ‘Little Ships’ for the evacuation of Dunkirk – only 5 came home.
This clip from the Bygone Years DVD was recovered and shared with us by documentary maker, Chris Taylor.
