Meet the HMS Leigh actors playing real people who made HMS Leigh into a naval shore base during WW2.
Discover what part Southend Pier played in the remarkable rescue of soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk,
as well as the preparations for D Day and the sinking of the SS Montgomery.
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion in the memory garden.
Children and staff can remember a loved one or a pet by tying a ribbon on the pier to flutter in the wind.

Meet the members and learn about our local charities, such as the Royal Naval Association, the Essex Society for
Family History, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the Royal Artillery Association.
Visit the RNLI and see the steadfast work they have done since 1879 saving lives in the Thames.
Learn about the Little Ships that went to Dunkirk and those that didn’t return by visiting the Endeavour.
Come in a class, as a year or as a whole school.

This is an outside event, plenty of fresh air, gentle exercise and learning opportunities abound.
Walk down the pier, enjoy the pier head and then take the new Southend Pier Train back to shore.

Have a cup of tea or beaker of squash in the HMS Leigh Café, and perhaps a Spam Fritter if the fancy takes you.
Let us know the subjects you would like to tie in to and we can advise on how best to frame your visit.
Timetabled slots that allow time for each activity before heading back to shore.
